There have been 2 things you can’t seem to escape: Pittsburgh Pirates home opener (way to go Bucs!) and the Tesla Model 3. Seriously, not only are people prefer ordering this car but they are lining up to see it. What’s the big deal? It’s JUST another car.
Let’s look at little deeper into this. Tesla is a California based electric vehicle manufacturer. When you hear ” electric vehicle” you probably think about a sluggish little Nissan Leaf that can barely hit 60mph. Yyyeeeaaaa, that’s not Tesla. Yes they are fully electric vehicles but they shatter all expectations of electric vehicles. Let’s take the Tesla Model S for example. It goes from 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 130mph. So yea, it’s fast. It’s super sonic compared to some other electric vehicles. The ludicrous P90D can go 253 miles on a single charge. Let’s not forget the price tag which is just a little under $135,000.
So why so much hype for the Model 3? Well first and foremost it is affordable coming in at $35,000. That’s not THAT bad. This is….um….an economy Tesla so it takes almost 6 seconds to go from 0-60. It can go 215 miles on a single charge. Electric cars haven’t really been popular here in Pittsburgh but as you may have noticed there are more and more charging stations popping up. With the Model 3 being super charge compatible the vehicle and be charged in not time. Yes, here in Pittsburgh(and many other cities) electric vehicles aren’t as convenient as gasoline engines. But in a matter of no time there will be charging stations everywhere. Just think; you’ll be able to “fuel up” your vehicle in your garage overnight. Goodbye gas stations.
