Why do I have to put air in my tires every day?
What do you mean my wheels can cause a leak?
If you have steel wheels and that is where the leak is coming from, that probably means that your wheel is bent. It could be so small that you don’t even notice it.
If you have aluminum wheels it’s a little trickier. The 3 main causes of air leakage from aluminum wheels are (1) Corrosion build up (2) Peeling Paint and (3) Gauges/impact marks on the wheel.
Do I really need these little caps on my valves?
If they fall off it’s not a huge problem but you are going to want to replace them. The valve caps keep out dirt and moisture that could cause the valve core to corrode. This is especially true if your car is equipped with TPMS Sensors. If that valve core get’s corroded and stuck in place the whole sensor will need replaced. So skipping a $2 fix could lead to a $50-$60 problem.
What is a Speed Rating?
The speed rating on a tire is basically telling you how well that tire handles at high speeds. The higher the speed rating the better your car will be able to handle the higher speeds. Also, the higher the rating the more heat the tire can take.
This question is kind of tricky because there are quite a few factors that go into tire wear. Tire Rotation is a huge factor. From 2WD to 4WD all tires need to be rotated. Even on 4WD and AWD vehicles the tires aren’t all doing the same amount of work. Also, bad driving habits and mechanical issues can cause excessive tire wear.
Why is it that I regularly rotate my tires but I seem to need to replace 1 or 2 of them frequently?
If you find yourself replacing an odd number of tires it is likely due to a mechanical or alignment issue. Remember: any time you get work done on your suspension you are going to need an alignment. Below is a Tire Wear chart as well as a video on alignments.
What is Tire Cupping?
Tire cupping is a way your tires are wearing. to read the article we wrote about it.
Do I need to get an alignment every time I get new tires?
No. An alignment is not needed every time you get new tires. Honestly, it’s a waste of money unless there is a problem. A good Tire Technician will be able to tell you if you need an alignment by the looks of your tires. But beware of someone just trying to sell you an alignment for no reason other to make money. Here are a few things to look for: Your car pulling noticeably to one side while driving(if you have to constantly correct the steering wheel to keep the car moving straight), Tires wearing mostly on the edges or if there was a recent impact from a curb, pot hole, etc.
Do you do Alignments?
No, we are not equipped for alignments. We usually recommend people to Daniel’s Alignment Services on Provost Road. Their phone number is 412-884-5854.
Do I need to replace my tires?/What is Tire Rot?
Those are 2 great questions! They involve a bit of an explanation so we wrote an article about it. You can find it HERE.
Do I need to replace all 4 tires on my 4WD/AWD vehicle?
That is a good question with a long answer. Click here for the post we wrote about it.
What can you tell me about Snow Tires? Do I need them?
We wrote all about snow tires here.
Can I order Used Tires?
Used Tires can’t be ordered. If we only have 1 tire in a certain size there is no way of knowing when we will get another.
Can you hold a Used Tire for me?
I have a (insert rim size here: 15,16,17 etc) inch rim, how much are New Tires?
Prices on tires change dramatically with size so the whole size is needed for a proper quote. If you say that you would like a price for a 16 inch tire here’s the problem: It could be one of several 16 inch sizes. A 205/55R16 is priced different than a 205/60R16. Also, if you wanted new tires we would want to make sure we got you the right ones. You can CLICK HERE to head over to our New Tires page and search for tires by size or search by vehicle.
My pick up truck has LT245/75R16 but P245/75R16’s are cheaper, I’ll take those!
If only it were that easy.. If you vehicle requires LT(Light Truck) tires you can not switch and put P(P-Metric). LT tires have a higher load rating and are made to withstand more weight than a P-Metric tire. If you put a P tire on a vehicle that requires a LT tires it will be unsafe and will most likely immediately blow out under the weight.
How can I make an appointment?
Here at DK Tires & Service appointments aren’t always necessary. It’s mostly first come first serve. If you have Extremely large tires (22 inch and up) you have to call ahead of time and they need to be brought in early in the morning or dropped off due to the extreme difficulty of mounting them. They don’t fit on the machine so they have to be put on by hand and that is very time consuming. However, with all the tire sizes out there it’s almost impossible to stock EVERY size. We suggest you give us a call first to check if we have your size.
What if you do not have my tires in stock?
Fear not! In 99.9% of cases, we can have your tires in next day(if not earlier).
If I “order” tires do I have to pay for them in advance?
Nope. If you need new tires and we have to order them because we do not stock them there is no payment needed(in most cases) until you have them put on your vehicle. The only time you are required to pay in advance is when specialty tires(tires that we can not return) are ordered. Vogue Tires are a great example of specialty tires.
