Hyundai Motor Company Of America and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall that is affecting 173,000 Hyundai Sonatas.
The Recall was reported on April 5 2016 and the NHTSA campaign number is 16V190000. According to the campaign there are certain 2011 Hyundai Sonatas that were produced between December 11 2009 and October 31 2010 that can have a damaged Electronic Power Steering(EPS) circuit board which will cause a power steering failure.
When the power steering fails the driver is required to use excessive force to turn the wheel(especially at low speeds) which can result in an accident.
If your car is subject to the recall Hyundai will contact you by mail. Hyundai will be replacing the EPS control units in the affected vehicles free of charge. The recall is expected to start May 30th.
If you suspect your vehicle may be part you can go to Safecar.gov and search for recalls related to your vehicle.
